Marcus Rashford: "Hansi Flick Was the Biggest Reason I Came Here"

Mansion Sports - FC Barcelona has officially announced the arrival of Marcus Rashford from Manchester United on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old English international becomes the club's second senior signing of the summer, following the acquisition of goalkeeper Joan Garcia last year.

Contract Details and Financial Arrangement

As part of the agreement, Rashford accepted a pay cut to facilitate his move to Camp Nou. Barcelona will cover the majority of his wages during the loan spell.

The deal includes an option to make the transfer permanent for a reported fee of €30 million. However, if the Catalan club chooses not to activate this clause, they will still be obliged to pay a €5 million penalty to Manchester United.

Rashford's Warm Welcome: “I Already Feel at Home”

In his first interview with the club’s official media, Rashford expressed his excitement about joining Barcelona. He arrived in Catalunya on Sunday to finalize the transfer and took part in his first training session with the team on Tuesday evening.

“I’m incredibly excited. This is a club where dreams come true — a club known for winning major trophies and holding strong values. I already feel at home here, and that’s a big reason why I chose to come,” said Rashford.

“For me, this club feels like a family. The people here make it a comfortable and enjoyable place to be.”

A Promise to the Barcelona Fans

Addressing fans’ expectations, Rashford underlined his commitment to making a tangible impact on the pitch.

“I always try to make decisive actions, playing fast and dynamically. I’ve always enjoyed beautiful football, and I grew up watching Barcelona play. So, to now wear this shirt is a tremendous joy, and I’ll savor every moment.”

Ambitions with Barcelona

Rashford also highlighted the club’s ambitious vision as a major influence in his decision to join.

“I’m very eager and hungry to help this club achieve success. They accomplished a lot last season, and it’s clear their ambition is to take it even further. That’s exactly what every player wants — an environment that pushes you to grow and be better.”

“I can’t wait to get started and enjoy every second of this journey.”

Hansi Flick's Influence on Rashford’s Decision

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick played a pivotal role in persuading Rashford to join the club. The two reportedly had a direct phone conversation on Thursday, just days before the transfer was finalized.

“One of the biggest reasons I’m here is because of my conversation with Hansi Flick. What he achieved last season and throughout his career proves he’s one of the best managers in the game,” said Rashford.

“He led the team’s young players to success and returned in preseason with even more determination. That confirmed everything I believed about this club. And now that I’m here, it truly feels like a dream come true.”

“I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch, learning the Barcelona philosophy, and contributing in matches.”

Rashford’s Message to the Culers

Rashford also shared a heartfelt message for the Barcelona supporters:

“I just want to say thank you for the warm welcome. This is a new environment for me, but as I’ve mentioned before, it already feels like home.”

“We as players deeply appreciate your support, and for me, that first moment at the stadium with the fans will be something special. I can’t wait to experience it.”

“Barcelona Was Always My First Choice”

In a separate media Q&A session, Rashford confirmed that Barcelona had always been his preferred destination.

“Yes, it was an easy decision for me. I already had the intention to come here back in January,” he stated.

“Six months later, the opportunity came again to make a decision — and I had already made up my mind long before.”

When asked about pundit Gary Lineker’s comment that “Rashford isn’t the problem, Manchester United is,” Rashford responded with composure and respect:

“Manchester United is going through a transitional period. But that club has been a major part of my life and career. I have nothing negative to say about Manchester, and I wish them all the best moving forward.”

Now beginning a new chapter at Barcelona, Rashford brings with him renewed determination and a strong desire to contribute. He is poised to write a memorable story at Camp Nou and meet the high expectations of the Blaugrana faithful.
