Gianluigi Donnarumma Announces Departure from PSG

Mansion Sports - Gianluigi Donnarumma has officially confirmed his departure from Paris Saint-Germain in a heartfelt farewell message addressed to his teammates, the club’s supporters, and the individual he referred to as the one who “decided” he could no longer remain with the French capital side.

Throughout the summer, the Italian goalkeeper had been at the center of persistent transfer speculation.

Despite openly expressing his desire to stay at PSG, contract extension talks stalled due to differences over a new wage structure proposed by the club.

Rather than reopening negotiations or allowing his contract to run until next summer, PSG’s management made the surprise move of signing Lucas Chevalier from Lille, with the clear intention of installing him as the club’s new first-choice goalkeeper.

This decision came barely three months after Donnarumma played a pivotal role in helping PSG secure an unprecedented quadruple, which included the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League title—a career-defining moment that has now been followed by an unanticipated farewell.

Donnarumma’s Farewell Message to Paris and Its Fans

In an emotional post on his social media, Donnarumma expressed both gratitude and disappointment at how events had unfolded.

“To the special fans of Paris, from the very first day I arrived here, I have given my all—both on and off the pitch—to earn my place and protect the goal of Paris Saint-Germain,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the team or contribute to the club’s success. I am deeply disappointed and heartbroken.”

The message came shortly after PSG head coach Luis Enrique left Donnarumma out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur. In his press conference, Enrique was unequivocal:

“Donnarumma’s exclusion from the squad is my decision. I take full responsibility for it,” the manager stated.

Donnarumma went on to share his hope of saying goodbye to the PSG supporters in person at Parc des Princes.

“I hope to have the chance to look into the fans’ eyes at the Parc des Princes and say farewell in the right way,” he continued.

“If that is not possible, I want you to know that your support and affection have meant so much to me, and I will never forget them. I will carry with me the memories of every emotion, every magical night, and of you making me feel at home.”

Career Journey at PSG

Since joining from AC Milan in July 2021, Donnarumma made 161 appearances for PSG and helped the club secure 10 major trophies, including Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and most notably, the UEFA Champions League.

The 2024–25 season proved to be one of his finest campaigns, earning him a place among the nominees for the prestigious Yashin Trophy as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

In his farewell statement, Donnarumma also extended heartfelt appreciation to his teammates, whom he described as his “second family.”

“To my teammates—my second family—thank you for every battle we fought together, every laugh we shared, and every moment we experienced on the pitch. You will always be my brothers,” he said.

He concluded by reflecting on his time with the club and in the French capital.

“Playing for this club and living in this city has been an incredible honor. Thank you, Paris.”

An Uncertain Future Ahead

While Donnarumma has now formally announced his departure, his next move remains unclear. He has been linked with several European giants, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and most recently, Manchester City.

With the summer transfer window still open, his availability adds an intriguing dimension to the market—particularly given his standing as one of the world’s elite goalkeepers still in the prime of his career.
